Mix and Match

The individual pieces of Children's Corner patterns such as collars, sleeves and pockets are interchangeable. You can make better use of the patterns you buy plus expand your child's wardrobe by "mixing and matching" the pattern pieces to create new garments.



Pique Collar Trimmed with Bias Tubing

Patterns:  Children's Corner #11 Bessie unsmocked 
Children's Corner Þ Kinsey sleeve
Fabric:  Heirloom Imports white pique with pink strawberries, heart and flowers

  1. Cut out collar and sleeves per pattern.  Use collar pattern sized for use with corded piping.  Do not pipe.


  2. Make sleeves according to directions.

  3. Stitch collar with right sides together.  Trim seam.  Turn to right side and press.

  4. Cut bias for bias tubing 7/8" wide. 

Hint! If you do not want to buy a lot of fabric to cut bias, buy a
         3 yard package of piping.  Take out the stitching use this bias
         for tubing.

  1. Fold bias with right sides together and raw edges together.  Stitch using a 1/4" seam.  Trim seam to 1/8".  Turn tube to right side and press with seam on one edge.

Hint:  To turn tube use a Fast Turn or a tapestry needle with
        heavy thread attached.

  1. Use a washout marking pen to mark "loops" on collar and sleeves.  There is one "loop" on front of sleeve and one "loop" on back of sleeve.  There is a "loop" on the front of each side of collar and two "loops" on back.  "Loops" are evenly spaced on collar.


  2. Whip bias tube to edge of collar with tiny stitches and a lightweight thread.  Let bias tube follow line of curve for each "loop".  Whip bias in place with tiny stitches on both the inside and outside of the bias.  Press.
