Mix and Match

The individual pieces of Children's Corner patterns such as collars, sleeves and pockets are interchangeable.  You can make better use of the patterns you buy plus expand your child's wardrobe by "mixing and matching" the pattern pieces to create new garments.  Each season we will give you a new idea!

Summer Shorts

Use Michael #87 and Babs #220

  Shorts Outfit
Shorts
  1. Use the Michael "pants back" (short version). Cut 4 for shorts. Cut 4 for shorts lining.


  2. Stitch center front, center back and side seams making plain seams. Press seams open.


  3. Stitch any desired trim such as Petit Piping or medium rickrack to right side of pants bottom.


  4. Stitch shorts to lining with right sides together around the top. Trim seam, turn and press.


  5. Stitch 1/8" from top. Then stitch again 1" below first stitching, leaving an opening for elastic at center back.


  6. Run 3/4" elastic through top of shorts, pulling up to fit your child.


  7. Stitch led bottoms and crotch.
Top
  1. Use any of the bodice patterns from Babs. Cut a little longer if you do not want tummy to show.


  2. Make top and make top lining, leaving a 3" to 5" opening at underarm seam on top lining.


  3. Trim with rickrack or petit piping. Stitch together top and top lining with right sides together. Trim seam, turn and press.


  4. Whip opening closed.
