Mix and Match

The individual pieces of Children's Corner patterns such as collars, sleeves and pockets are interchangeable.  You can make better use of the patterns you buy plus expand your child's wardrobe by "mixing and matching" the pattern pieces to create new garments.  Each season we will give you a new idea!

  1. To alter front and back yokes, find center of shoulder, then measure 1" toward neckline. Cut front and back yokes vertically from top to bottom on this line. Add a 1/4" seam allowance. To cut these pieces from fabric, cut armhole side of yoke with the grain as usual.

  2. Cut center pieces of front and back yoke across grain.

  3. To make trim: Cut a 2" strip of white 44" fabric. Press in half lengthwise. Stitch a piece of this trim between pieces on front and back yokes. Press this trim toward the armhole.

  4. Collar and wide sleeve bands are white.

  5. Just above where the hem is to be stitched, top stitch a 3/4" finished strip of white. To make this, cut two 1 1/2" strips of 44" fabric. Stitch together with a bias joining. Fold raw edges together and press.

  6. Bows on front yoke: Cut 2 pieces of white 3 1/2" x 5". Fold in half and stitch ends and down sides, leaving a 2" opening. Trim, turn and press. Whip opening closed.

  7. Cut two pieces of white 1" x 2", fold raw edges together and press. Fold over again and press. Wrap this piece around center of bow. Stitch together at back of bow, turning under raw edges.

  8. Tack bows to dress.
