Purse Pocket Dress: - For flare of side seam on this dress I drew a line half way between the straighter and more flared styles. Cut out Dress front, dress back and front and back linings as indicated on the pattern.
- Use the rectangular pocket, but change the grain line to go across the fabric. Then cut 1 pocket and 1 pocket lining. Trace the pocket on another piece of tissue paper and draw in a curve to make pocket flap. Cut one flap and one flap lining.
- To construct pocket, stitch medium sized rickrack around curved edge of flap. Stitch flap lining on this same stitching. Trim, turn and press. Place pocket flap on right side of pocket and stitch across pocket. Place lining on pocket and finish pocket per instructions in pattern.
- Making dress: On left-hand side only trim the back shoulder extension off even with front. Stitch this shoulder seam and press open. Do the same for lining. Stitch lining to dress at other armhole and around neckline. Trim, turn and press.
- On other armhole fold dress and dress lining in opposite directions back over dress and put raw edges together. Stitch this armhole. Trim, turn and press. (Note: This is just like Louise and Mary De.) Stitch the left-hand underarm side seam on dress and dress lining. Press open.
- Stitch dress bottom to bottom of lining on front and back. Trim seam, turn and press. Stitch the left-hand side underarm seam as per instructions in pattern.
- Center pocket over this side seam and pin in place at the corners. Leave about the same amount of space above the pocket and below the pocket. Then before you stitch the pocket down, place medium sized rickrack over the shoulder and down to top corners of pocket in front and back, letting rickrack extend down under the pocket about 1”. Baste rickrack in place on dress. Topstitch rickrack to dress. Then topstitch pocket to dress. Sew a button on pocket flap.
